Registration year does not safely distinguish 200Tdi/LT77 from 300Tdi/R380. Confirm VIN, engine and gearbox physically.
Lift carpets and put the chassis on a ramp
Rear chassis, outriggers, body mounts, sills, pillars, footwells, boot floor, arches and seat-belt anchors all need probing. Fresh underseal proves nothing.
Timing-belt alignment evidence is essential
Unknown belt age or absent alignment-modification evidence means immediate work. Cooling pressure, P-gasket, injection and turbo condition follow.
Assess cooling, liners, camshaft and oil pressure
Unexplained coolant loss, tapping, low oil pressure or persistent misfire requires specialist investigation—not optimism about an old V8.
Test gearbox and LT230 as one worn chain
LT77/R380 spline and bearing wear, ZF engagement, transfer whine, centre lock, propshafts, swivels and differentials must all be assessed.
Sunroofs and alpine windows create structural consequences
Dry-looking carpet can hide saturated insulation and corrosion. Water-test, lift trim and inspect roof gutters and connectors.
A lift affects more than ride height
Check castor, propshaft angles, brake hoses, steering, tyre clearance, gearing, wheel offset, recovery points and insurance declaration.
