THE DISCOVERY 2 CHECKS THAT DECIDE THE PURCHASE
Early cases may contain the locking mechanism without a cabin linkage; some transition cases do not. Facelift cars restore a linkage. Repairs and retrofits mean year alone is unsafe.
Rear rails can make the vehicle uneconomic
Inspect internally and externally around the rear crossmember, towbar, spring/air mounts and above the fuel tank. Layered patches are not restoration.
Head sealing, injector oil and fuel dilution are separate checks
Pressure-test cooling, inspect the ECU red plug for oil and diagnose injector seals, pump and regulator using hot-start behaviour and live data.
Cooling and block condition dominate
Persistent coolant loss, tapping, overheating history or misfire needs a Rover V8 specialist assessment for liners, block, camshaft and front cover.
Inspect the complete hydraulic system
Pipes, pump, valve block, actuators and control faults need separate diagnosis. Removing ACE changes hardware and requires an honest conversion audit.
Measure overnight height and compressor performance
Seven-seat and UK Commercial selections are restricted to rear self-levelling air suspension unless a conversion is explicitly declared.
Three warning lamps need diagnosis, not parts darts
Use live wheel speeds and stored faults to distinguish hubs, sensors, wiring and shuttle-valve/modulator problems while proving ETC and HDC.
UK Discovery 2 generator reviewed 2 August 2026. Engine, gearbox, centre-lock, seating, SLS and ACE combinations drive twenty-six detailed checks.
