THE DISCOVERY 3 CHECKS THAT DECIDE THE PURCHASE
The genuine base coil vehicle is five-seat TDV6 and lacks Terrain Response. Seven-seat, V8 and higher-specification cars use four-corner air suspension. Confirm the build record and fitted hardware.
Crankshaft and lubrication risk need evidence
Correct frequent oil servicing, filter inspection and informed listening matter. A replacement engine without detailed provenance does not automatically reduce risk.
There are two belts—and relevant oil-pump hardware
Demand an itemised record for the front cam belt and rear fuel-pump belt, tensioners and correct updated components where the engine production point requires them.
“Sealed for life” is not maintenance evidence
Test cold/hot engagement, coast-down, kickdown and converter lock-up while reading adaptations. Check sleeve, pan, cooler and actual fluid history.
Measure height retention and compressor performance
Record all corners after standing, time pressure build and command every height. Leaks, dryers, valve blocks, sensors and compressor wear must be separated.
A screech is a warning, not a characteristic
Correct shoe and cable adjustment prevents actuator overtravel and damage. Inspect and operate the electronic parking brake repeatedly before it jams.
Cascading faults require an all-module scan
One bad wheel-speed, steering-angle, suspension or transfer input can disable several programs. Find the initiating module rather than replacing the selector.
Control arms and brake pipes are only part of the lift inspection
Inspect the integrated body frame, mounts, crossmembers, sills, towbar, lines, front/rear arms, hubs and steering before pricing individual knocks.
Sunroof drains can create network faults
Water-test the roof, plenum, windscreen and tailgate, then lift underlay and inspect fuse, connector and loom areas before blaming modules.
