Early five-seat cars could combine coil suspension with road-biased single-speed AWD; seven-seat and capability specifications use air suspension and twin-speed transfer hardware. The active locking rear differential is another separate option. Confirm the build, not the badge.
Cold-start chain and balance-shaft evidence matters
Listen for chain rattle or balance-shaft whine, audit correct-oil intervals and interrogate DPF regeneration and dilution evidence. Test the sequential turbos through their handover.
V6 diesel history must cover bottom end, both belts and turbo control
Demand traceable oil servicing and both timing-system invoices. A quiet warm idle is not enough: cold-start it, inspect the oil/filter evidence and load-test the boost system.
Scan the 48-volt system as part of the powertrain
D250, D300, D350 and P360 add a 48V battery, belt-integrated starter-generator and DC/DC conversion. Check state of health, energy-flow faults and smooth stop/start—not just the 12V battery.
Read live DPF, EGR, SCR and AdBlue data
Frequent regenerations, rising oil level or an AdBlue countdown require root-cause diagnosis. Recently cleared codes do not prove a repair.
Identify single-speed, twin-speed and rear-locking hardware
A road-biased single-speed car has no low range. On twin-speed cars, command low range and scan the transfer controller; where fitted, exercise and scan the active rear differential separately.
Test height retention, not only height selection
View it after standing, measure all corners, time each commanded height and assess compressor duty. Diagnose leaks, valve blocks, dryer, sensors and compressor as one system.
Separate early Touch Pro from 2021-on Pivi Pro
Test displays, cameras, telematics, audio, USB, powered seating and every assistance feature. Scan all modules and verify calibration after windscreen or bumper work.
Look for aluminium repair and hidden water ingress
Inspect bonded structure, mixed-metal joints and lifting points, then lift the load floor and carpets. Roof, screen or tailgate leaks can damage modules before obvious trim staining appears.
