Identify the vehicle first
Confirm VIN, model year and exact powertrain from the vehicle and paperwork. A 2018 registration alone does not establish every facelift or equipment detail. Request charging equipment, service records, recall status and any prior high-voltage or cooling repairs.
Ask for a meaningful hybrid demonstration
Arrange enough time to observe an AC charge and the vehicle’s transition between electric and petrol operation. Dashboard electric-range estimates vary with conditions and are not a battery-health certificate. Have a qualified specialist inspect isolation, fault history, battery data and the relevant cooling systems. Never handle orange high-voltage components yourself.
Check the rest of the car
Record air-suspension height before unlocking if possible, then test all settings and look for a sagging corner after parking. Check matched tyres and slow-turn behaviour, gearbox response, climate control, cameras and driver assistance. Inspect the underbody and signs of accident repair with methods appropriate to aluminium construction.
Read the digital evidence
A generic engine-code reader is not a full vehicle scan. Request a report from a Land Rover-capable system covering chassis, body, transmission and hybrid modules, including stored and pending faults. Recently cleared codes or unavailable modules need an explanation and retest.
Decision
If charging, specialist hybrid checks and all other systems are supported by evidence, assess the asking price against maintenance and condition. If the seller will not allow a charge or qualified scan, the key uncertainty remains. Do not price a potential high-voltage fault from a casual diagnosis; pause until a specialist gives a written finding.
Take these questions to the viewing
Can the seller provide itemised invoices for the important work? Will the engine be cold on arrival? Can you check the VIN, MOT history and all keys? Will they permit enough time for a complete test drive and an independent specialist inspection? Record answers and unresolved items before making an offer.
